What is "functional lability"?
Functional lability (or simply lability) is a state of nervous excitement caused by a reaction to a stimulus, which as a result does not correspond to the current situation. This phenomenon can be observed in humans, animals and even bacteria. Functional lability differs from the term “emotional lability”, which is a psychological and psychophysiological characteristic of a person. The former is a clinical concept, while the latter does not have strict diagnostic connotations. Emotional lability is a variable ability to control emotions and keep them under control.
