Medicinal misconceptions. You should know about them to protect yourself.
Misconception No.1. You can take several medications at the same time.
Medicines may be incompatible with each other. The most common pharmacological incompatibility occurs. Sometimes it is useful, for example, atropine is indispensable for poisoning with fly agaric poison. But mostly drug incompatibility gets in the way. Antibiotics are often incompatible. They should not be unnecessarily combined with antipyretics, hypnotics, and antihistamines.
Misconception No.2. Medicines work the same on all people.
It is known that the same medications have different effects on children, the elderly, and pregnant women. Moreover, the therapeutic effect of some drugs is lower in women than in men, while for others it is the opposite.
Misconception No.3. Before swallowing the tablet, be sure to chew it.
Regular tablets do need to be crushed. But you cannot chew coated tablets - they will stop working or may cause adverse reactions.
Misconception No4. It is better to take medications with plain water.
Medicines need to be taken with water, but water is not suitable for everyone. For some medicines, milk, alkaline water or sour juices are better.
Misconception No5. Medicines should be taken after meals.
Many medications are best taken on an empty stomach. Some medications are taken directly with meals to enhance digestion. There are medications that need to be taken 1-2 hours after eating.
Misconception No.6. Medicines from well-known manufacturers are better.
Many drugs are available under different names, but have the same composition. Such synonymous drugs differ only in name.
