Librium

Librium is the trade name of the drug chlordiazepoxide, which belongs to the group of tranquilizers.

Chlordiazepoxide was the first benzodiazepine tranquilizer, synthesized in 1960. It is rapidly absorbed when taken orally and has a sedative, hypnotic, anticonvulsant and muscle relaxant effect.

Librium is widely used to treat anxiety disorders, insomnia, and alcohol withdrawal. However, its use is limited due to the possibility of developing drug dependence.

The drug is available in tablets, capsules and solution for injection. The dose and duration of treatment are selected by the doctor individually for each patient. If Librium is abruptly discontinued, withdrawal syndrome may develop.
