Lignocaine hydrochloride: a powerful local anesthetic

Lignocaine hydrochloride, also known by its international name lidocaine, is a pharmaceutical drug used as a local anesthetic. It belongs to the group of local anesthetics and is widely used in clinical practice to provide pain relief during various procedures and surgical interventions.

Lignocaine hydrochloride is produced by the Warsaw pharmaceutical plant Polfa in Poland. It is available as an injection solution in 1% and 2% concentrations. The main active substance in the drug is lidocaine.

The use of lignocaine hydrochloride is due to its powerful anesthetic effect. It effectively copes with various types of pain and is used for superficial, infiltration, conduction, epidural, spinal and intraligamentary local anesthesia. The drug is also used for ventricular extrasystoles and tachyarrhythmias, including cases of acute myocardial infarction, as well as in the postoperative period and for various painful manipulations, endoscopic and instrumental studies.

It should be noted that lignocaine hydrochloride has its contraindications. It is not recommended for hypersensitivity to lidocaine, history of epileptiform seizures, WPW syndrome, cardiogenic shock, sinus node weakness, heart block, severe liver disease, myasthenia gravis and during pregnancy.

Some side effects may occur when using lignocaine hydrochloride. These may include headache, dizziness, tinnitus, impaired consciousness, respiratory depression, depression or excitation of the central nervous system, nervousness, euphoria, convulsions, nausea, vomiting, allergic reactions and others.

Lignocaine hydrochloride may also interact with other medications. For example, it enhances the inhibitory effect of narcotic drugs on the respiratory center, weakens the cardiotonic effect of digitoxin and increases muscle relaxation caused by curare-like drugs.

Overall, lignocaine hydrochloride is an effective and widely used local anesthetic. However, its use must be carried out under the supervision and prescription of a qualified medical specialist who will take into account all indications, contraindications and possible side effects. It is important to follow the dosage and instructions for use to ensure the safety and effectiveness of treatment.
