Lipoid keratopathy

Lipid keratopathy is a chronic disease characterized by progressive degeneration of the corneal epithelium. It is estimated that there are approximately 6 million cases of lipid keratopathy in the world.

Keratopathy is characterized by changes in the morphology of stromal tissue and is accompanied by degenerative changes in the corneal epithelium. These changes can lead to the formation of follicles and subsequent ulceration. Keratopathy can also be caused by disruption of the corneal blood supply (eg, due to embolization) or damage to the corneal barrier (eg, dry eye syndrome).

Clinical manifestations of keratopathies vary depending on the cause of their occurrence
