Losek MAPS: An effective antiulcer drug from Sweden

Losac MAPS (Losac Maps) is a highly effective antiulcer drug produced in Sweden. It belongs to the pharmaceutical group of antiulcer drugs and contains an active substance called omeprazole.

The manufacturer of Losec MAPS is the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca AB, which is based in Sweden. Omeprazole, the international name of the drug, is also available under various synonyms such as Vero-Omeprazole, Gastrozole, Zerotsid, Zolser, Lokit, Lomac, Losek, Omegast, Omez, Omezol, Omepar, Omeprazole and others.

Losec MAPS is presented in the form of film-coated tablets with a dosage of 10 mg and 20 mg of omeprazole. Omeprazole is the active ingredient of the drug and has pronounced antiulcer properties.

This drug is used to treat various diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. It is effective in the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers in the acute phase, gastroesophageal reflux disease (including refractory cases that cannot be treated with H2-antihistamines), reflux esophagitis (including erosive and ulcerative), pathological hypersecretory conditions (such as Zollinger-Ellison, polyendocrine adenomatosis, systemic mastocytosis, stress ulcer, as well as for prophylactic purposes), peptic ulcer of the gastrointestinal tract caused by Helicobacter pylori infection, non-ulcer dyspepsia and other conditions.

There are some contraindications when using Losek MAPS. This drug is not recommended if you are hypersensitive to omeprazole, or during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Like any medicine, Losec MAPS may cause side effects. Some of these may include dry mouth, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, as well as changes in taste sensitivity, stomatitis and gastrointestinal candidiasis. In some cases, polyposis of the fundus of the stomach, atrophic gastritis, and increased activity of liver enzymes were noted. Nervous disorders such as headache, malaise, asthenia, dizziness and drowsiness are also possible.
