Mediastinum

Mediastina (mediastina; mediastinum; Latin - mediastinum - located in the middle, mediastinum) is an anatomical structure located between the lungs and the heart. It is a cavity filled with fatty tissue, blood vessels, nerves and lymph nodes.

The mediastinum is an important anatomical structure as it provides passage to many important anatomical structures such as the esophagus, trachea, bronchi, esophageal glands, arterial vessels, nerves and lymph nodes. In addition, the mediastina is the site of many organs, such as the thymus, lymph nodes, aorta, heart and lungs.

The mediastina has a complex anatomical structure, consisting of several layers, including the parietal, visceral and mediastinal layers. The parietal layer is made up of connective tissue and covers the chest from the front and back. The visceral layer is a continuation of the parietal layer and contains various anatomical structures such as the trachea and esophagus. The mediastinal layer is located between the other two layers and consists of fatty tissue and blood vessels.

An important aspect of the anatomy of the mediastina is its connection with various organs and structures. For example, the esophagus is one of the main anatomical elements passing through the mediastinum. It connects the mouth to the stomach and allows food to pass through. The trachea also passes through the mediastina, transporting air from the lungs to the larynx and back.

The thymus is an important immune system of the body and is located in the anterior mediastinum. Lymph nodes are small organs that filter lymph and protect the body from infections.
