Menopur is a drug that is used to treat infertility in women and men. It contains hormones that help regulate the reproductive system.
Menopur is produced in Germany by Ferring GmbH and is available in the form of a lyophilisate for the preparation of a solution for injection. The drug contains 75 units of FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) and 75 units of LH (luteinizing hormone).
Indications for use of Menopur include:
Hypogonadotropic infertility (infertility associated with disorders in the hypothalamic-pituitary system).
Insufficient maturation of follicles (insufficient function of the corpus luteum).
Controlled superavulation (a process in which eggs are removed from the ovaries and fertilized outside the body) with in vitro fertilization.
Suppression of spermatogenesis in men (reduction in the number of sperm in semen).
Menopur is administered intramuscularly or subcutaneously every other day. The dosage and duration of treatment depend on the diagnosis and individual characteristics of the patient.
Side effects of Menopur may include:
Swelling of the ovaries.
Pain at the injection site.
Weight gain.
Increased blood glucose levels.
However, these side effects usually go away after the course of treatment is completed.
It is important to note that Menopur is not the drug of choice for all cases of infertility and should only be used as prescribed by a doctor.
