Micellar water has recently appeared in the world of cosmetics. It was first used to cleanse the delicate skin of babies, which is what it was developed for. But thanks to its properties, micellar water has gained popularity at lightning speed as one of the most effective makeup removers.
What is micellar water used for?
Many people don’t yet know exactly what it is. In simple words, it is an aqueous solution containing microscopic particles called micelles. They are the main characters of the whole process. Micelles are formed from surfactants. By the way, surfactants are chemical compounds responsible for foaming. Each molecule of such a substance has two poles: lipophilic (which attracts fats) and hydrophilic (which attracts water). Once on the skin, these molecules are grouped in a circle in such a way that the lipophilic ends are in the center, and the hydrophilic heads are along the entire perimeter. The result is a very beautiful spherical compound, it is a pity that it cannot be seen with the naked eye, since the size ranges from 10 −5 to 10 −7 cm. This is a micelle.
The result of the action of these particles in the cleanser is as follows: all fats, dust, dirt and cosmetics are attracted to the lipophilic ends and end up in the middle of the micelle. It can be compared to a ball made of water-attracting fabric and filled with fat inside. And since its outer surface consists of hydrophilic heads, and therefore easily contacts water, it will not be difficult to wash off these spherical compounds.
Micellar water "Loreal"
Various companies have already distinguished themselves in the production of their micellar water. There are products produced by Garnier, Vichy, Yves Rocher, Evelyn, Bioderma, and this is not a complete list.
L'Oreal micellar water is also on store shelves. Moreover, this company managed to release two types of this cosmetic product: the first - for normal and combination skin called “Endless Freshness”, and the second - “Absolute Tenderness”, intended for dry and sensitive skin. It is this tool that will be analyzed in this article.
Purpose of micellar water "Absolute tenderness"
The manufacturer recommends this product for removing makeup and also for moisturizing the skin. Micellar water quickly removes makeup residue from the entire face, as well as the especially delicate area around the eyes, without requiring additional rinsing with water. The product is designed for daily use. If we talk specifically about this creation of the L'Oreal company, the micellar water "Absolute Tenderness" was created specifically for girls and women with sensitive and dry skin. As a result of regular use, they promise a noticeable improvement in the condition of the face.
Keeping your skin hydrated is an added bonus. This is especially true on hot summer days, when sweat, dust accumulates on the face, and even cosmetics run due to the high temperature. Then it is very practical to carry a bottle of this product with you in your handbag. With just one swipe, you can remove dirt from your pores and help your skin breathe again.
But first I would like to look at the components that make up L'Oreal micellar water.
Compound
The word “water” in the name can be misleading, as it is a purely ecological product, because what could be safer for delicate facial skin than H2O? But what else is contained among the components of this makeup remover? There are harmless poloxamer 184, disodium caproamphodiacetate and polyaminopropyl biguanide, and the feared hexylene glycol, glycerin and disodium EDTA.
How dangerous are these components? For example, hexylene glycol is contraindicated for people with sensitive epidermis because it has dermatological harshness. Glycerin is known to nourish the skin by drawing moisture from the air. But this only works well if it is there. If the air is dry, then glycerin takes this very moisture from the deep layers of the skin, as a result of which the sensitive epidermis suffers. And disodium EDTA is generally recognized as carcinogenic.
The presence of such ingredients does not inspire optimism, but in fairness it must be said that their concentration in L'Oreal micellar water is minimal and does not exceed the norm. But the good news is that there is no alcohol in the composition, which dries out already dehydrated skin. In addition, the products of this company always undergo dermatological testing before hitting store shelves.
Skin cleansing
If we talk about the advantages or disadvantages of such a product, we must first note how it copes with its initial task - removing makeup, and only then talk about other characteristics. So, more than half of the consumers sing odes of praise about how easily this water removes all excess from the face. This applies to lipstick, liquid shadows, eyeliner, and mascara. This does not mean that everything happens literally as in advertising - with one swipe of a cotton swab. Sometimes you need to go through it two or three times, but generally L'Oreal micellar water meets the stated requirements.
By the way, the entire makeup removal process takes a matter of seconds. There is no need to wash off cosmetics with milk, then use toner, and then moisturize with cream. Micellar water combines these three treatments into one. It’s not for nothing that make-up artists and make-up artists use it when an actor or singer needs to quickly change their makeup behind the scenes. Along with similar products, L'Oreal micellar water for mixed skin received more than satisfactory reviews. But in fairness, it must be said that girls who apply “powerful artillery” to their faces need to use 3-4 sponges to fully remove makeup.
This product is also useful in cases where you just need to correct the eyeliner or remove oily shine on the cheeks. It doesn't smudge makeup all over your face. Therefore, many girls constantly take it with them when leaving home for a long time. That's what micellar water is for.
Only waterproof cosmetics, especially mascara and eyeliner, do not immediately lose their position. Here, you still can’t do without foam or gel for washing, and you can simply consolidate the result with micellar water.
Consistency
The product from L’Oreal Paris “Absolute Tenderness” is liquid, like ordinary water. It’s surprising how well it copes with removing fats contained in decorative cosmetics, but the fact remains a fact. Micellar water appears clear and contains no dyes. If you shake the bottle, foam and small bubbles appear. Also, this product from L'Oreal is fragrance-free, meaning the product does not smell like anything. This is because “Absolute Tenderness” micellar water is intended for sensitive skin, and it requires a very careful approach. Sometimes fragrance can cause allergies, and this is completely unnecessary.
Additional benefits
They love this miracle water because it really does not cause skin irritation. There is no redness, peeling or itching after use. The face does not become covered with spots. On the contrary, the hypoallergenic, alcohol-free formula soothes even the most demanding skin. This product has also successfully passed ophthalmological testing, which means that accidental contact with the eyes will not cause irritation. In short, this micellar water is ideal for people with sensitive and dry skin.
Sometimes makeup removers dry out the skin. But the same cannot be said about this product from L’Oreal Paris. After application there is no film effect or feeling of tightness on the skin. It is not sticky, so there is no need to wipe your face with toner.
After such flattering reviews, many will want L'Oreal micellar water to appear in their cosmetic bag. The price is quite affordable, so most people can afford it. For a 200 ml bottle you will have to pay an average of 300 to 400 rubles.
Flaws
What's wrong with L'Oreal micellar water? Reviews say that many do not like the design of the bottle, or rather, the location of the dispenser. It is located right in the center of the wide lid. The hole is big enough. Therefore, much more micellar water is spilled onto the sponge than necessary. As a result, the product runs out quickly.
More serious complaints arise regarding the composition of micellar water. Some components are alarming, while others are scary.
But if we draw a general conclusion, among similar products from other brands, L'Oreal micellar water receives quite positive reviews.
Micellar water has been used for medical purposes for quite some time and was originally developed to care for very sensitive and dry skin, including infants and people with dermatological diseases. Today, this innovative development of French cosmetologists has taken a strong place in the cosmetic bag of every modern woman. This unique product effectively and gently cleanses the face of impurities and makeup, cares for it, and transforms it.
Why is it needed?
Micellar water is not just a product for washing, it is a special cleanser, which completely removes decorative cosmetics and dissolves impurities, while maintaining the hydrolipid balance and protective functions of the epidermis, does not require subsequent rinsing. It doesn't irritate or dry out, so it can be used to remove eye makeup.
It got its name from the smallest particles it contains - micelles, which are round liquid crystals consisting of complex fatty acids. These small particles, like magnets, attract fat, dirt, cosmetics and envelop them. Contaminants enclosed in the micelle are easily removed from the surface with a cotton pad.
Features of micelles:
- Able to reduce the negative impact of most cleansing substances that irritate the dermis. This also applies to sodium lauryl sulfate.
- Interferes with the action of most chemicals. This quality is both positive and negative. Micelles can also deactivate “useful” components; the cosmetic product will not give the expected effect.
- The main property of micelles is binding and washing away oily particles, which is what makes products with micelles ideal for removing makeup and sebum.
The main advantages are:
- gently and effectively cleanses the dermis;
- maintains lipid balance;
- moisturizes the epidermis, since the micelles perfectly pass through all its layers and deliver life-giving moisture;
- does not damage, does not dry or tighten;
- does not leave behind a greasy film, like, for example, cosmetic milk;
- since it does not require additional rinsing, it is an excellent option for cleansing while traveling;
- quickly refreshes on hot summer days or after physical activity;
- will help correct slightly smudged makeup.

Experienced employees of the laboratory of the cosmetic brand L’Oreal Paris have developed their own unique formula for a new generation of products intended for facial care.

With a simple movement of your hand with a cotton pad soaked in the product, you will cleanse and refresh your face.
"Absolute tenderness"
The product is specially designed for dry and sensitive skin, An excellent alternative to Bioderma. It has an advanced, unusual texture, more like a gel - it is not at all thick and non-sticky. Fats and cosmetics are easily removed and can be used to remove eye makeup. The refreshing texture will soothe and moisturize the face. The gel is well distributed over the surface of the dermis and has a neutral, delicate aroma.
L'Oreal micellar products can be used daily; they do not cause redness or burning when they come into contact with the mucous membrane of the eyes. They have a hypoallergenic formula, tested under ophthalmological and dermatological control.
Compound
The products consist of distilled water and micelles. How additional components are used:
- glycerin, which helps retain moisture;
- Hexylene glycol is an especially mild surfactant;
- preservative;
- Polyaminopropyl Biguanide – Protects against a wide range of mold, bacteria and yeast, and is found in some children's cosmetics and contact lens formulations.
Does not contain alcohol, alkali and soap.
How to use?
To cleanse your face of residual sebum, dirt and decorative cosmetics accumulated during the day, moisten a cotton pad with the solution and wipe your face along the massage lines. To completely remove contamination, you will need to repeat the procedure several times.
To remove eye makeup, apply a cotton pad for a few seconds and remove with a gentle movement. The upper eyelid is cleaned in the direction from the inner corner to the outer, and the lower - vice versa. If the mascara is long-lasting, then place one disc under the eyelashes, and the second on the eyelashes. Wait and remove them with a slight movement. Do not rub or stretch delicate skin.
Cosmetologists recommend removing stubborn makeup first with a special product.: separately for the eyes and separately for the face. Then you can finish cleansing with a micellar solution. Of course, using it is not the end of your facial care. Next, you need to use tonic, creams, serums. For deep cleansing, do not forget to use stronger products such as masks, scrubs, etc.
If you have to attend an important event or have important things planned, then to keep your skin toned and prevent the appearance of oily shine, wipe it with ice cubes made from water with micelles.
Peculiarities
If you use the product for daily cleansing, there is no need to rinse it off. But if you use it for makeup removal, then experts still advise carefully removing the residue with water. Micelles in combination with particles of fat and decorative cosmetics can lead to the formation of acne.
Women with oily skin are recommended to use gels for cleansing. But after cosmetic procedures that dry out the dermis, you will need a micellar solution. Be sure to exfoliate at least once a week. Water is too soft, so additional cleansing of dead particles is necessary.
For girls who do long-lasting multi-stage makeup, such cleansing will not be enough. They are better off using stronger rinse-off products, preferably those containing acids.
Who is it suitable for?
- If you don’t like the washing procedure itself, then water with micelles will be a godsend. It will quickly and easily cleanse your skin and give it a fresh look.
- Girls with sensitive, dry skin, rosacea and acne. Often, washing with water and cleansers leads to irritation and dryness.
- If it is not possible to use other methods of cleansing, for example, when traveling, or it is tough.
- Girls who lead an active lifestyle go to the gym. After a workout, water will perfectly cleanse your face of sweat and refresh it.
- Since the product has a low cost and low consumption, it is suitable for budget-conscious ladies.

Reviews
Micellar water is a unique product that can gently cleanse and refresh the skin, maintain its moisture and give it a well-groomed appearance. This product is an undeniable must have; it deserves to take its place not only on the shelf in the bathroom, but also in every woman’s cosmetic bag.
Sometimes in my reviews of decorative cosmetics I write the phrase “it washes off well with micellar water.” Several of my friends, to whom I showed the publications, asked what kind of animal this is - micellar water. Therefore, today’s review, by popular demand, will be about it.
What is micellar anyway?
Micellar water (or, in common parlance, micellar water) is a special liquid product that allows you to easily remove almost any impurities from the skin, including dust, persistent cosmetics, and fat. It consists of ordinary, distilled or mineral water and micelles (from the Latin mica - crumb, grain), which are microscopic droplets of aqueous solutions of fatty acids. Additionally, caring components and those that help the product maintain a stable structure can be added.
Initially, micellar waters were invented to care for sensitive infant skin and for people with dermatological problems, and only then they drew attention as a makeup remover, thanks to the miraculous ability of micelles to easily separate impurities without causing irritation.
First acquaintance with micellar water
I first saw this product back in 2007 in the lines of French cosmetic pharmacy brands: Bioderma, La Roche Posay, Uriage. Since the entire description of the principle of action of micellar water does not sound very convincing (some mysterious particles that cannot be seen should supposedly easily cleanse my skin - some kind of shamanism), and the price of 1000 rubles for half a liter of ordinary-looking water scared me off for a long time. I didn't dare try it.
Then my passion for makeup and YouTube began, where absolutely every makeup artist at least once showed Bioderma micellar water with a pink cap in a video about their cosmetic favorites. In the end, curiosity won out and I bought it for myself to try. This was the beginning of a long friendship that has lasted for 6 years.
About a year ago, reviews of Loreal micellar water began to appear on YouTube, with assurances that it was just as wonderful as my beloved Bioderma. Which, by the way, has also risen in price due to the change in the ruble exchange rate. Since I know that Loreal owns drugstore brands such as La Roche Posay and Vichy, this gave me reason to believe that they are able to produce a quality product. At this point, it’s time to finish the literary introduction and move on to the review itself.
Micellar water L’Oreal Absolute Tenderness: description, composition, comparison with Bioderma
Here they are my beauties:
Note: my micellar product from Bioderma is called Crealine - this is an option for the domestic European market (imported from France). In Irkutsk pharmacies it goes under the name Sensibio - it is absolutely the same product.
Both are clear water. In the photo it seems that the jars are the same size, but don’t believe your eyes. Loreal - 200 ml, Bioderma - 500 ml.
The smell of both is approximately the same and barely perceptible, similar to Irkutsk mineral water. There are no fragrances, which is very cool.
Close-up of Loreal:
Close-up of Bioderma:
Unfortunately, my jar is not Russified, but in short, it says the following: it guarantees gentle removal of impurities without irritating even the most sensitive skin, maintains the correct pH level, and is suitable for removing eye makeup (tested by ophthalmologists). Directions for use: apply to a cotton pad, apply to the skin, gently remove dirt, if necessary, repeat with a new cotton pad.
As you can see, the compositions of the micellars are different, but I don’t really understand anything about either one. If someone does an analysis of the composition, it would be very interesting to read.
It's time to smear yourself with cosmetics and look at the effects of both waters in comparison.
Micellar water in action
Since its main purpose is to remove makeup, I decided to decorate myself with the cosmetics that I often use:
What I have here (in order): Max Factor mascara, TonyMoly gel eyeliner (long-lasting), Bell liquid eyeliner, Art Visage eyeliner, Gosh felt-tip eyeliner (long-lasting), Maybelline mascara, Maybelline color sensational lipstick , TonyMoly lip pencil (quite long lasting), Pupa lip pencil. I walk around with all this splendor for about 30 minutes so that the cosmetics sit well on the skin.
I will wash the top row with Loreal micellar, and the bottom row with Bioderma. I slowly move a well-moistened cotton pad over my hand, with almost no pressure. Rrraz:
In general, when you remove makeup from your face with micellar, it is better to apply a cotton pad and hold it, rather than rubbing. Here I didn’t hold it, but, I note, I didn’t rub it either, I just rubbed it lightly without stretching the skin. I take a fresh cotton pad and repeat the procedure:
Gel eyeliner doesn't give up. I’ll use the same cotton pad one more time:
And this is a photo from a different angle:
How I use micellar water
Before moving on to a detailed opinion, I’ll say again that on my face I use micellar a little differently than in the experiment above:
To remove eye or lip makeup, I moisten a cotton pad and apply it to the skin for 1.5-2 minutes. Then I remove the remaining paint with very light movements. If the makeup was completely persistent, I repeat the steps again,
If my eyelash line was painted and the previous step did not completely remove the makeup, then I soak a cotton swab in micellar and walk over the eyelid. There is no need to rub, the remnants of makeup seem to stick to the cotton wool themselves,
To remove foundation and blush from the face, I wet a cotton pad well and wipe the skin lightly, without pressure.
After that, I do my usual facial care routine, including washing my face with water and some foaming product. But in the morning I can simply wipe my face with micellar and rinse with water (I can do without the last step, but I’m psychologically uncomfortable).
It is important to remember that micellar is NOT a TONIC! She does not need to wipe her face between cleansing and applying cream, because... It does not perform a tonic function.
Opinion about both micellar waters
So, based on the results of the experiment on my hand and the long-term use of both micellar products on my face, I can draw conclusions:
Bioderma micellar water begins to dissolve makeup faster
both products work equally well with long-lasting cosmetics
Neither water irritates or stings my skin
I can remove eye makeup with both, but Bioderma is more comfortable for me because it works faster
neither one nor the other leaves a sticky or filmy feeling on the face
According to the manufacturers, you don’t have to wash your face after both micellar products, but I wash my face most often, because... I just love the feel of the water.
I love no other makeup remover as much as micellar water. I can't stand oily textures on my eyes (which are most common on biphasic people) because they make me extremely irritated, to the point of tears. And here even very budget water from Loreal does not cause any discomfort.
Overall, I'm happy with both products. Yes, Loreal micellar water acts a little slower, so I would continue to use Bioderma if it weren’t for one tiny fact. Bioderma costs about 1,200 rubles for 500 ml, and Loreal costs about 200 rubles for 200 ml.
So now I use Bioderma micellar water only to remove particularly heavy eye makeup or cleanse the space between the eyelashes. In all other cases I I am completely satisfied with how the product from Loreal works. I recommend trying it!
I hope you found my review interesting and useful.
