Middle laparotomy

Median laparotomy (lat. laparotomia - “opening of the abdomen”) or median-median laparotomy is a thoracic-abdominal surgical operation in which an incision is made in the middle of the anterior abdominal wall. Unlike laparoscopy, a large volume of dissection manipulation in the abdominal cavity is assumed. The purpose of this type of intervention is to open the abdominal cavity with its contents for the correction of gynecological, urological, therapeutic and mechanical pathological conditions. Often, to restore breathing during laparotomy, an upper tracheostomy access is additionally applied.

Median laparotomy is a surgical operation in which the anterior abdominal wall is opened, most often in the midline of the abdomen to perform certain surgical interventions in the abdominal cavity.

This operation is performed when the internal organs are located incorrectly, which causes constant problems. Laparotomy is also performed in cases of severe pathological changes and consequences of injuries. This could be intestinal rupture or strangulated hernia.

The advantage of this type of operation is the ability to perform all planned and emergency laparotomies in one stage. Main stages of the operation
