Relative neutropenia is a condition when the number of neutrophils in the blood decreases compared to normal levels. Neutrophils are white blood cells that protect the body from infections and bacteria.
There can be many causes of neutropenia. Some are related to problems in the immune system, such as autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis or systemic lupus erythematosus. Other causes may be related to chemotherapy for cancer treatment, high dose medications, etc.
Neutropenia can cause serious health problems such as infections and sepsis. This can happen if neutrophil levels are low at
