Neurogenic necrosis is necrosis of nervous tissue caused by injuries to the peripheral innervation or central conduction apparatus of the spinal cord and brain. Develops in areas of nerve damage. It can be one- or two-sided, superficial and deep.
Neurogenic necrosis is caused by disturbances in the blood supply to the nerves and can develop under the influence of an acute disorder or chronic circulatory failure. According to N.A. Khodzhaeva, the frequency of its occurrence is from 2 to 3 cases per 1 thousand visits to otorhinolaryngological departments of regional and city hospitals. Prevalence is from 0.1 to 1.5 cases per 1 million population (Yu. D. Loseva, A. I. Kryukov, Ya. M. Brozhik). To date, no cases of the development of neurogenic necrosis as a complication of frontal ethmoiditis have been described in the domestic literature. Therefore, we present a clinical observation of a patient with this diagnosis.
The main symptoms of a nonepithelial process in the maxillary sinus are pain, nasal discharge and decreased sense of smell. If such symptoms have been present for several days, then it can be argued that pathological changes are occurring. In this case, a neurogenic fibroma of the maxillary sinus was formed by blocking the sinus drainage hole, as well as narrowing the nasal passages. Such manifestations begin 6 months or more after the patient has suffered an injury, runny nose, rhinitis, sinusitis and other colds. If there is deformation in the face, the timbre of the voice has changed, problems with chewing and swallowing have appeared, as well as tooth destruction, you should immediately consult a doctor. Since these symptoms lead to the development of dental erosion, which can contribute to the appearance of cracks, destruction of enamel and tooth loss. Also, due to constant irritation of the face, skin changes often appear. It is for these reasons that it is necessary not to delay treatment, but to consult a specialist as soon as possible.
