Nervous groove

Nervous groove

The neural groove (lat. sulcus neuralis, lne) is a narrow gap located on the back surface of the pelvic bones on the sides of the sacral foramen. It goes down from the upper edge of the sacral foramen and ends at the lower edge of the ischial tuberosity.

The nerves of the same name, branches of the spinal nerves, pass along the neural groove. These nerves innervate the muscles and skin of the gluteal region.

A neural groove separates the sacral horn from the ischial tuberosity. It serves as a guide during certain surgical procedures in the pelvic area.
