Nystagmography

Nystagmography is a method of recording eye movements based on recording nystagmus. It is used in neurology, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology for diagnosing diseases of the vestibular apparatus, brain, etc.

In nystagmography, fast and slow components of nystagmus are recorded using special devices - nystagmographs. There are mechanical, optical, and electronystagmographs. The resulting nystagmogram gives an idea of the frequency, amplitude, and direction of nystagmic movements.

Analysis of the nystagmogram makes it possible to determine the localization of the vestibular analyzer lesion and assess the function of the vestibular nuclei of the brain stem. Nystagmography is used to diagnose vestibular disorders in diseases of the ear, neuritis of the auditory nerve, tumors of the cerebellum, etc.
