Complex mixed odontoma (o. compositum mixtum) is a rare benign tumor that develops from dental tissues. It consists of connective tissue, as well as epithelial and mesenchymal components of the tooth germ.
Complex odontomas usually occur in permanent teeth and are most often localized in the anterior maxilla. The tumor slowly increases in size without causing pain. An X-ray examination reveals a radiolucent zone with clear contours.
The diagnosis is made based on clinical and radiological signs. Treatment consists of surgical removal of the tumor. The prognosis is favorable, relapses after radical excision are rare.
