Onychoheterotopia

Onychoheterotopia is a rare condition in which the fingernails and toenails grow in different directions. It can be caused by genetic factors, injury or infection.

Onychoheterotopia usually appears as two or more nails growing in different directions on the same finger. For example, nails on the index finger can grow parallel to each other, and on the thumb – perpendicularly. Sometimes the nails on different fingers can grow in different directions, which can lead to deformed fingers.

Treatment for onychoheterotopia may include removing the affected nails and using topical medications to stimulate the growth of healthy nails. In some cases, surgery may be required to remove the affected tissue.

It is important to note that onychoheterotopy is a rare condition and diagnosis can be difficult. Therefore, if symptoms of this disease appear, you should consult a doctor for diagnosis and treatment.
