Operation Emergency

Emergency operation (lat. operatio urgens; synonym: emergency operation) is a surgical intervention performed on an emergency basis for health reasons.

Emergency operations are performed for conditions that threaten the patient's life and require immediate surgical treatment. Such conditions include injuries, bleeding, ruptures of hollow organs, acute intestinal obstruction, peritonitis, sepsis and others.

The goal of emergency surgery is to relieve the life-threatening condition and stabilize the patient. As a rule, such operations are life-saving in nature. They can be performed at any time of the day and do not require lengthy preoperative preparation.

The indication for emergency surgical intervention is a condition that threatens the patient’s life and cannot be treated with conservative therapy. The decision on emergency surgery is made collectively, taking into account the severity of the patient’s condition.
