From what we have taught in the general rules for the treatment of wounds on nerves, some methods of using tumors that appear on nerves when they are wounded are already known. Now we must talk about this more generally and will convey what Galen says in the book of Kataganis. He says: When phlegmon occurs due to injuries to nerves and organs rich in nerves, then if the phlegmon is strong and very inflamed, in its treatment one should use medicines prepared from vinegar and mineral stones, which we have already named. And he named many such medicines in the second treatise of Kataganis, and one of them is vitriol - nine and a half dirhams and another quarter of a dirham, kalkadis - a dirham and a quarter, copper dross - two uqiyas and two and a half dirhams, olive oil peels - nine ukiya, galban - ukiya, wax - seven ukiya, olive oil - nine ukiya, strong vinegar - two and a quarter rittle. Dry medicines are ground with vinegar for ten days, and what dissolves is dissolved and cooled. Place all this together in a kettle and mix thoroughly until the mixture is even. Olive oil should be dripped onto the diseased organ two or three times a day, and before applying this medicine, wool soaked in vinegar and olive oil should be placed on the wounded area, heating both to moderate heat, for there is nothing so harmful and bad for sore nerves, like anything cold.
If under any circumstances you have to apply bandages prepared with vinegar, honey and ash to such organs, then the ointment for the bandages should be boiled, and let the flour in it be lenticular vetch flour, and if it is not available, then use horse bean flour or barley flour.
