Orchidopexy
Orchidopexy is a surgical operation that involves moving an undescended testicle into the groin area and fixing it in the scrotum. The operation should be performed before the onset of puberty in boys, so that the testicle can develop normally in the future (see Cryptorchidism).
Orchidopexy is performed to treat cryptorchidism, a congenital condition in which one or both testicles do not descend into the scrotum. This allows you to normalize the temperature of the testicles for normal spermatogenesis, prevent injury and the development of malignant tumors.
The operation is performed under general anesthesia. The surgeon makes a small incision in the groin area, finds the testicle and stitches it with wax thread to the bottom of the scrotum. Sometimes laparoscopy is required to look for a testicle located in the abdominal cavity. After the operation, painkillers are prescribed.
