Orungamine: an antifungal agent for the treatment of various mycoses
Orungamine is an imidazole-triazole derivative antifungal agent that is used to treat various mycoses. It is available in the form of capsules containing 100 mg of the active ingredient, itraconazole. Orungamine is produced by the pharmaceutical company Ozone in Russia.
Indications for the use of Orungamin include onychomycosis, mycoses of the skin, oral cavity and eyes caused by dermatophytes, yeasts and molds, systemic tropical mycoses and vulvovaginal candidiasis.
However, before starting treatment with Orungamine, it is necessary to ensure that the patient has no contraindications to its use. Contraindications include hypersensitivity to itraconazole, pregnancy and lactation.
In addition, when using Orungamine, side effects may occur, such as dyspepsia, abdominal pain, constipation, hepatitis, increased appetite, headache, dizziness, peripheral neuropathies, dysmenorrhea, increased levels of transaminases in the blood plasma, itching, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, prolongation bleeding time, edema, hypokalemia, weight gain, hyperammonemia, alopecia, angioedema, urticaria and pruritus.
It is also necessary to take into account the interaction of Orungamine with other drugs. For example, it is incompatible with terfenadine, astemizole, lovastatin, oral forms of midazolam and triazolam. Orungamine also enhances and/or prolongs the effect of oral anticoagulants, cyclosporine A, digoxin, methylprednisolone, warfarin, vincristine and calcium channel blockers. Rifampicin and phenytoin, in turn, reduce the bioavailability of itraconazole, and antacid drugs can slow down the absorption of Orungamine (the interval separating their administration should be at least 2 hours).
In case of overdose with Orungamine, there are no data, but in patients with liver cirrhosis and/or renal impairment, it is necessary to monitor the plasma concentration of itraconazole and adjust the dose if necessary. Women of childbearing age should always use contraception during treatment.
Thus, Orungamine is an effective antifungal agent that can be used to treat various mycoses. However, before using Orungamine, you must consult a doctor and make sure that the patient has no contraindications to its use. It is also necessary to consider possible side effects and interactions with other drugs. Overall, Orungamine is an effective and safe drug that may be effective in the treatment of mycoses.
