Gatekeeper's Hole

The pyloric orifice is an opening in the abdominal cavity that is located at the junction of the duodenum and stomach. It is important for the digestion process and protecting the stomach from harmful substances.

The pyloric opening opens outward and allows food to pass from the duodenum to the stomach. However, this opening is also closed by a special muscle - the pyloric sphincter. When food passes through the pyloric opening, the pyloric sphincter relaxes, allowing food into the stomach, and then closes again.

The gastric sphincter protects the stomach from harmful substances from the external environment. In case of insufficiency of the gastric sphincter, undigested food debris, microbes and toxins may penetrate into it. That is why it is important to monitor the condition of your gastrointestinal tract and promptly consult a doctor if problems arise.
