Phototaxis is the ability of some species of living organisms to move towards a light source in response to changes in the intensity or direction of light due to visual stimulation. This effect is achieved through the presence of photoreceptors in the cells, which convert the energy of a photon (light quantum) into an electrical impulse, which is then transmitted to the brain, where it is processed and the appropriate reaction is directed.
This behavior is called light sensation because the direction of the reaction depends on the characteristics of the light pulse, such as intensity, wavelength, duration, and direction in space. Photoreceptor activity may also be involved in creating the sensation of other environmental properties, such as movement, temperature, pressure, etc. This allows them to use the environment for orientation and navigation. An example of phototaxis is fireflies. They generate flashes of light with which they attract their potential mate. If we focus on light as a source of energy, then this probably makes sense, because... it is the fastest and most efficient source of light energy, which becomes available to inactive organisms when they reach reproductive age
