Pituicytoma

Pituycytoma is a rare benign neoplasm that develops from pituitary cells of the pituitary gland. Pituycytes are glial cells of the neurohypophysis that play an important role in the production and secretion of pituitary hormones.

Pituycytomas are usually solitary tumors and are localized in the area of the sella turcica. They can reach large sizes, causing compression and damage to surrounding brain structures. Clinical manifestations of pituicytoma include headaches, visual disturbances, and hormonal disorders.

Diagnosis of pituicytoma is based on MRI data and histological examination. Treatment consists of surgical removal of the tumor. The prognosis for pituicytoma is favorable after complete removal. Relapses are rare.
