Pleurodesis

Pleurodesis (pleurodysis) is a method of treating pleural disease by “gluing it together,” which leads to the filling of all inflammatory cavities with the pleura and stopping the accumulation of intrapleural fluid. This makes it possible to ventilate the lungs, facilitates their work and reduces the patient’s hypercapnia. The effectiveness of the intervention has been shown in cases of fibrous changes in the pleural layers, chronic empyema, pleurisy, also after surgical treatment in order to prevent adhesions and relapses. The procedure is often prescribed to eliminate postoperative diaphragmatic hernias.
