Polar body
A polar body is a small cell containing almost nothing except a nucleus. It is formed during the maturation of the egg and has the appearance of a speck located at its animal pole. The polar body plays an important role in the process of fertilization, as it contains a centrosome that attracts penetrating sperm. After the fusion of the nuclei of the sperm and egg, the polar body gives rise to a fission spindle, which ensures the fragmentation of the zygote. Thus, this small structure of the egg cell is extremely important for the normal development of the embryo.
