Polaroid

A polaroid, or polarizing plate, is an optical device for dividing plane-polarized light into two mutually orthogonal beams with right and left circular polarization. The property of this phenomenon was first described by Heinrich Polyais on December 6, 1886, and in January 9 of the following year it was reported at the Royal Society in London.
