Polyophthalmoscope

Polyophthalmoscopes are a method for determining visual acuity in children, based on the appearance of light rays or polychromatic objects. Visual acuity, in which the child sees only an object moving along the contour, in this case is defined as 1.0. If the child can only see the entire object at once, this level becomes 0.5. Finally, a child with the maximum level of vision can also distinguish the edge of a line; this indicator is 1.0. The results of measuring visual acuity from 0 to 1 are compared with the result of a study of the refraction of the eye.

In the Russian literature, the term “polyophthalmoscopy” is not used; instead, the term “polychromometropia” is usually used [1].

The traditional way for a specialist to examine the fundus involves observing the eye through a slit lamp using lenses of varying strengths. Experts recommend that children wear contact lenses only until they reach the age of five. Typically, the length of time you can wear lenses is limited by the age of the child.
