Proglottida (Latin Pro - Ahead, Glottis - Tongue)

Proglottid (Lat. Pro - In front, Glottis - Tongue)

The proglottid is one of the body segments of the tapeworm. Tapeworms have an elongated, segmented body consisting of many proglottids.

Each proglottid is a separate segment of the worm's body and performs specific functions. The proglottids are arranged sequentially in a chain, forming the entire body of the worm.

In the front part of the body there is a head (scolex) with suckers and hooks, with the help of which the worm attaches to the host tissues. The head is followed by mature proglottids containing the reproductive organs and eggs of the parasite.

At the very end of the body are immature proglottids, which gradually mature and separate from the worm, releasing eggs into the environment. Thus, proglottids play an important role in the reproduction and dispersal of tapeworms.
