Proctosigmoiditis Atrophic

It is a lesion of the sigmoid colon and overlying parts of the colon, manifested by atrophy of the intestinal mucosa. It is considered one of the forms of chronic colitis and occurs mainly in women under 30 years of age. Characterized by periodic abdominal pain, stool disturbances, discharge of mucus and blood during bowel movements mixed with pus. The diagnosis is based on clinical and anamnestic data. Treatment involves following a diet and avoiding alcohol and nicotine, prescribing medication, and sometimes surgery. For constipation, laxatives are prescribed; emollient medications may be recommended to reduce the frequency and volume of stools.
