Protoscolex

Protoscolex Protoscolex is a group of microscopic creatures that live in the intestines of humans and other animals. These organisms were recently discovered, so their name is unusual for a wide audience. However, in science they play an important role in understanding many processes related to the food industry and human health.

What are protoscolexes and why are they needed?

Protoscolex is the primary embryo of the tapeworm, which lacks a developed digestive system. Tapeworms can reproduce both sexually and asexually, and the offspring immediately leave the mother's body after birth and do not stay there. During the process of reproduction, they also exchange genetic material. Several individuals together form a pair. They have no differences between the sexes and sex is determined only by genotype.
