Psychologists: Heavy bags cause depression

Heavy bags, it turns out, are not only harmful to the health of the spine, but also negatively affect your mood. According to Chinese scientists, carrying heavy objects can cause depression.

A group of psychologists from the National University of Singapore and the University of Hong Kong conducted a study on the effects of constantly carrying heavy bags on the human psyche. As a result, scientists came to the conclusion that the likelihood of the occurrence and development of depression in those who are forced to move heavy objects is much higher than in others.

The experiment showed that the sensations at the physiological level obtained when wearing heavy bags are reflected in a person’s ability to express his opinion on topics that are not even directly related to this. Notably, negative affect was reduced when people with heavy burdens were asked to think about light-weight objects or simply something pleasant.
