Quadrigeminal Artery Syndrome

Quadrigeminal Artery Syndrome: Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

Quadrigeminal Artery Syndrome (QAS) is a rare disease characterized by a combination of oculomotor disorders and symptoms of cerebellar lesions or impaired consciousness. This disease is caused by a circulatory disorder in the branch of the posterior cerebral artery, which provides blood supply to the quadrigeminal.

The causes of NAV are not fully understood. However, it is known that circulatory disorders in the posterior cerebral artery can be caused by atherosclerosis, thrombosis or embolism. Also, the risk of developing MAS increases with the presence of risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, smoking and other diseases of the cardiovascular system.

The main symptom of MAS is impaired upward eye movement. Patients may have difficulty reading, writing, working on a computer, or other activities that involve looking up. In addition, symptoms of cerebellar damage may occur, such as dizziness, unsteadiness when walking, hand tremors, impaired coordination of movements, and others.

Various methods are used to diagnose SAS, including MRI, CT, ultrasound, and others. If symptoms of SFA are detected, timely consultation with a neurologist and comprehensive diagnostics are necessary to identify the causes of the disease.

Treatment of SCA is aimed at improving blood circulation in the posterior cerebral artery, as well as eliminating the symptoms of the disease. Patients may be prescribed medications aimed at improving blood circulation, physiotherapeutic procedures, as well as rehabilitation measures.

In some cases, surgery may be required, for example, for thrombosis or embolism. However, the decision on the need for surgery is made individually, based on the characteristics of the disease and the patient’s condition.

Thus, Quadrigeminal Artery Syndrome is a serious disease that can lead to disruption of the patient's quality of life. Timely seeking medical help, comprehensive diagnosis and proper treatment can help avoid complications and maintain health.

Quadrigeminal artery syndrome is a combination of oculomotor disorders (eg, impaired upward eye movement) with symptoms of cerebellar damage (and/or impaired consciousness) associated with a circulatory disorder supplying the quadrigeminal region of the brain. This is a very rare disease that most often occurs as a complication of the disease.
