Good October day, Beauty Patrol!
Firstly, I apologize for the lack of review on the scheduled Friday. Some of my readers even wrote to me in a personal message asking if everything was fine with me (I appreciate your attention and that you are looking forward to my publications). Friday was very busy at work, this doesn’t really excuse me, but I promise to post more reviews this week
Previously, I left a review about the Kiehl’s Season’s Giving New Year’s advent calendar that I purchased. The first product about which I left a detailed review with photos in before-after format was the Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment With Avocado eye cream, I gave it a score...
Today we will talk about the Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque with Amazonian white clay.
I have it in a 14 ml jar. But on the official website it is sold in 28 ml and 142 g format. at a price of 1,440 rubles and 2,300 rubles, respectively. With a larger volume, this is downright generosity in value from the Kiehl’s brand.
My opinion about it was made after the second use. Looking ahead, after the first use I did not notice any changes on my face (pores) at all.
The manufacturer says it is necessary to use this mask 1-2 times a week, which is what I did. Of all the statements in the annotation for the product, I was concerned about the issue of cleansing the pores, so in the photo below the emphasis will be on them.
After I opened the jar, I was delighted with the consistency of the mask: no grains, viscous, but easy to apply, dries so that it does not need to be peeled off with a pumice stone (just kidding).
I don't smell any particular fragrance. And this is a big plus for me.
This is what my face looks like before applying the mask:
The face is sad, because you need to do it before the baby wakes up, and the dirty pores don’t give you peace
The mask dried out and began to crack. The skin tingles both when first applied at the beginning of the week and now, but it’s bearable.
Let me summarize: on the forehead I don’t see a difference at all, on the wings of the nose it’s even more or less, but not perfect (and the next day I still used my favorite Luke nose strips with lemon, and, believe me, the strip had something to clean) , on the chin there are generally 0 results (sadness)
For clarity, I am attaching a collage in before-after format:
0% out of 100% that I would buy again
The set contained the optimal volume of product - 14 ml. Enough for 5-10 uses, if I really like it, I can buy a larger package

Masha Botvinina and Lena Loginova study clay masks with different properties and compare their impressions.
Initially, Masha was going to test all the masks alone. And I tested it. But then I thought that her skin was too oily, and she needed someone else for a more objective test. Therefore, having tasted enough, Masha carefully handed over all the jars to the renowned authority on problem skin - Lena Loginova.
Mask-scrub Exfoliating Multi-Use Clay, Diptyque
Promises: in addition to kaolin, it contains natural apricot kernel oil, which should nourish, moisturize and start the regeneration process. In addition, the mask contains marble powder to remove dead skin cells. And if you add tonic, the clay base turns into a milky emulsion. By the way, Lena K loves this mask.
Lena Loginova (combination skin, prone to oily skin, sensitive, previously problematic):
- Ta-dam, it’s done! The first clay mask that not only does not dry out, but also moisturizes. I really like the effect: you wash it off and the skin is polished, fresh and soft. Of the minuses: strong fragrance - Exfoliating Multi-Use Clay noticeably smells like apricot. At first it seems cool, but then you walk for 10-15 minutes and smell, and smell, and smell. But this is a subjective disadvantage: I am a well-known dislike of strong fragrances in skin care products. And the objective minus is very large abrasive particles. Personally, they don’t scratch or irritate my skin, but I dread to imagine what could happen on a more sensitive or blemished face.
Masha Botvinina (normal skin, but sensitive, prone to dehydration and redness, with black dots on the nose):
“I’m used to clay masks hardening into a thick layer after application, and this is a signal that it’s time to wash it off. So, this one doesn’t freeze, no matter how long you wait. It contains a lot of small, but very sharp particles - it felt like I was washing my face with sandpaper. The result, of course, is good - the skin is smooth and polished, but I’m not ready to repeat the experience again. The smell, compared to the sensations, did not impress me at all.

Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Masque, Kiehl’s
Promises: clean and tighten pores, remove dead cells, reduce oily shine. Contains Amazonian white clay, kaolin, aloe vera. Suitable for normal, oily and oily skin.
Lena Loginova (combination skin, prone to oily skin, sensitive, previously problematic):
— There are such means as interlocutors in a queue: you seem to have talked, but you don’t remember point-blank. So it is here. Mask. Clay. On the face it behaves like all clay masks - it hardens, removes oiliness, and dries out the skin. Like all clay masks, it is a bit difficult to wash off. No memorable fragrance, no stunning effect. This is a mask like a mask. The only thing I remember is the impressive size of the jar; apparently, the Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Mask will remain with my grandchildren.
— Masha Botvinina (skin is normal, but sensitive, prone to dehydration and redness, with black dots on the nose):
— The mask does not give any “wow” effect. The first time there was even an anti-effect - the mask pushed sebum to the surface of the skin, but could not wash it out of the pores - it turned out to be white dots. I returned to the mask after a couple of weeks, and there were no such surprises, but it didn’t get much better either. It hardens in about 10 minutes, cleans pores with a “C” rating, and washes off easily. That's all he can tell her. There is no additional shine, no polishing, not even a scent. Surprising because I absolutely adore the Kiehl’s Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque.
Ingredients: Water, Kaolin, Bentonite, Propanediol, Glycerin, Titanium Dioxide, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cetearyl Alcohol, Corn Starch, Phenoxyethanol, Ceterath-20, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tocopherol, Lecithin, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Oat Kernel Flour, Allantoin.
Nourishing Anti-Wrinkle Thermal Spring Mud Face Mask, Frais Monde Terme di Repole
Promises: to make the skin more elastic, firm and healthy in appearance, to promote cell regeneration. Firm the skin and help it retain moisture. Contains vitamins A and E, sulfurous thermal water and clay from thermal springs.
Lena Loginova (combination skin, prone to oily skin, sensitive, previously problematic):
— The main advantage of this mask, in my opinion, is that it cleanses and invigorates the skin quite well (I appreciated it after parties), although this is not stated. But I just didn’t notice the promised food. Otherwise, it's great: a very pleasant texture, like light yogurt or melting cream. It applies thinly (from which I conclude that it will be used economically and will last for a long time), has a slight smell - this is what my mother’s creams smelled like when I was 8 years old, so I’m just nostalgic -) I think it’s suitable for frequent use because its soft influence. I recommend it to those with sensitive skin - the mask is so gentle that it is unlikely to cause irritation.
Masha Botvinina (normal skin, but sensitive, prone to dehydration and redness, with black dots on the nose):
— A very unusual texture for clay masks - light, even a little liquid. And the color is still such a grassy green - in the best traditions of cinema, when you need to photograph a lady at her evening dress (where is my turban and pink robe?) The mask is difficult to apply in a thick layer - it tends to spread between your fingers. It hardens quickly and you can even see how it sinks into the pores.
The mask is declared as anti-aging, so you shouldn’t expect it to deeply cleanse pores and get rid of blackheads. But I liked the effect: wrinkles (and I have facial wrinkles on my forehead) became a little less noticeable, the skin was soft and the complexion was more even, looking fresh. Like. I'll clean my pores with something else.
Ingredients: Bentonite, water, echinacea extract, isomerizate saccharide, allantoin, butylparaben, ethylparaben, glycerin, tocopherol acetate, retinyl palmitate, glycosphingolipids, imidazolidinyl urea, lecithin, magnesium chloride, methylchloroisothiazolinone, methylparaben, niacinamide, parfum (perfume), phenoxyethanol, pripi lenglycol, propyl para
Have you tried these masks? How do you generally feel about clay masks?
Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Cleansing Masque - Mask for cleansing and tightening pores
I wanted to write a review on Cosmetist about this cleansing clay mask after the first use. Almost two years have passed since that moment. Kiehl's Rare Earth Deep Cleansing Masque I went through the abnormally hot and humid St. Petersburg summer, heating seasons, trips to the sea, pregnancy and the recovery period - many different external and internal fluctuations. Having bought the second jar, I realized that it was time to get down to business and tell you everything I know about this mask.
I recommend that those with skin ranging from normal to oily, problematic and not sensitive to pay attention to this mask. And also for those for whom the popular and beloved Shiseido The Skincare Purifying Mask and Korres Pomegranate Cleansing Mask turned out to be weak and did not give a cumulative effect - as was the case for me.
I'll start with myself
I'm 29. I define my skin type as normal, seasonal-combination. In summer the T-zone can become oily, in winter the cheeks become dry + dehydrated. The pores on the cheeks are slightly enlarged. Inflammations are extremely rare. There are no blackheads or post-acne spots. The pores are shallow and clog very quickly: from fried potatoes, eclairs, one day of heat. This congestion manifests itself in the form of “stumps” that are noticeable when touched, on the chin and wings of the nose, which become very visible even without macro after applying foundation.
This is exactly what I wanted to get rid of, having returned in a very neglected state after a whirlwind vacation romance with pizza, tiramisu, gelato and the hot October Roman sun.
Package
For those who are annoyed by the descriptions from the series “the bottle fits comfortably in your hand,” please go straight to the text below. I want to dwell on this point, because it was Kiehl’s that made me understand how important and great it is, however, when all the information about the product is on the can itself. Many of us throw away the packaging with the full name and composition, the insert describing the benefits and method of use. And then (having sneaked into the bath while visiting a friend) you hold in your hand a beautiful jar with the mysterious and promising inscription “Beauty Elixir” and cannot figure out where to put it.
Kiehl’s - as a brand with pharmacy origins, everything is indicated on the product packaging itself: composition, promises, method of use, weight, expiration date, markings on the plastic of the jar and lid.
The jar is pleasant and practical - it can easily withstand transportation and travel. The bank itself does not have any protection, i.e. You can unscrew the cap in the store. There is protection inside: a soft and easily peeled disc (no need to pick or make holes with a knife). While the jar travels around the world and turns over from side to side, a certain amount of maxi sticks to it, which is enough for me for 2-4 uses. Then I fix the disk, clean from my fingers, at the bottom of the lid so that it does not get dirty on future trips.
For this post, I saved 2 jars of this mask: one was purchased at Rive Gauche in St. Petersburg in the fall of 2012 (ran out), the second - in April 2014 at Larnaca airport, Cyprus. So I'll show you both. There are no fundamental differences, only some markings on the inside of the lid and on the bottom of the can itself are different. But there is no doubt about the authenticity of both masks.
Material: bulk plastic. Those. There is a small void between the outer and inner bottoms, due to which the external volume of the can appears a little larger. The sticker label is easily removed (no need to wipe off the ZhDSL glue), leaving a very nice jar that will please any housewife.
Due to the right angles, it may be problematic to remove the remains of the mask from the bottom, but it is quite possible with short nail lengths. And those who have long ones probably have a spatula or brush for masks in their arsenal. The remains, which are visible in the photo, were easily removed for the last fulfillment of their cleansing duty.
The volume of the mask is 142 g. I would say large. Plus a can, not a tube. Therefore, it is not very convenient to take it on trips. But you can always take a sample for this at the point of sale (samples are provided without problems, this is the brand’s policy), put it in a jar of eye cream, or not take it with you at all, because the longer you use this mask, the less often it you need.
Since we're talking about samples, I'll show you what it looks like. Everything is written the same, only small. Sample volume - 5 ml. It's enough for me 2-3 times. As the consultant said: “You can stretch it to four!” The sample has a shelf life of one month. Those. You can test the product relatively clearly. Now I take a calculator and count: 5 ml / 2 = 2.5 ml - this is how much mask is needed for one optimal time. 142 g / 2.5 ml* = 56.8. That is, the mask is enough, roughly speaking, for 55 absolutely wasteful uses. We have plus or minus 52 weeks in a year. Well, then consider for yourself: the thickness of the layer and the frequency of application are very individual. I smeared my first jar for more than a year (although the shelf life is only a year), since I used it irregularly, out of necessity: sometimes 3 times a week, and sometimes once a month.
* With your permission, I will not calculate the volume of the mask and convert ml to g.
Texture and composition
- Compound
Water, Kaolin (this is the same Amazonian white clay), Bentonite (a mineral useful in clay masks), Propanediol, Glycerin, CI77891 / Titanium Dioxide, Caprylic / Capric Triglyceride, Cetearyl Alcohol, Zea Mays Starch / Corn Starch (corn starch ), Phenoxyethanol, Ceterath-20, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tocopherol, Lecithin, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Oat Kernel Flour, Allantoin Fmla 725094/2 F.I.L.
I don’t understand ingredients and I don’t sleep well anyway. If I make comments incorrectly, correct me, I will be glad. Clay comes second - and that’s good. It is its mineral composition, according to the manufacturer, that gives this effect. The clay is from the island of Marajo, at the mouth of the Amazon River. Aloe and oats trail at the end. Although on the manufacturer’s website it is aloe, along with clay and this Bentonite, that are stated as the three main active ingredients.
— Texture
Pleasant, delicate gray color. The texture is very thick and homemade sour cream. You can immediately put on your finger or, like normal girls who know a lot about skin care, put the amount of mask needed for the entire face on a spatula - the texture allows it. This way you don't have to keep the can open during application. On a damp (damp) face - in the sense of washing, blotting, applying a mask - as written in the instructions, it is easy to apply, on a damp (wet) - in the sense of washing, blotting, sprinkled with thermal water (I have Avene Thermal Spring Water), applied a mask — it slips a little, but the thickness of the layer can be adjusted without problems. I can't describe the smell. This is probably the ennobled smell of clay. But it is not strong, natural, and, to me, pleasant. I would venture to guess that no one will find it so terrible that they would refuse to use a mask.
As you remember, I have two jars. Having bought a second one and not yet throwing away the first one because of a future post, I discovered that the consistency of the masks is different. The old one dried out a little and became literally a quarter tone darker. I think this is normal for a clay mask, considering that the old mask is long past its use-by date. Applying this dried version on the face, by the way, is more convenient, and does not affect the effectiveness - I didn’t notice. The only thing is that a dried mask dries out faster on the face, but this can be corrected with thermal water.
Application
— Length of time and layer thickness
If you buy this mask in Rive Gauche, the instructions for use on the sticker will be very different from those written on the packaging, that is, officially indicated by the manufacturer. No massage movements and 3-5 minutes! (the text of the sticker has not changed since 2012)
The method of application is translated as accurately as possible and is available in the Catalog. I’ll add that consultant Rive Gauche recommended the mask for problem skin on the back.
The manufacturer asks us to keep the mask on for approximately 10 minutes until it dries. The brand consultant at Larnaca duty-free emphasized that you shouldn’t hold it for longer than 10 minutes. Consultant Reeve Gauche reiterated the recommendations regarding approximation. It is clear that the drying speed of the mask depends on the thickness of the layer (We are recommended to apply thin, but some prefer thicker, and everyone has their own concept of thin), temperature and air humidity. If the mask dries very quickly, you can spray it with thermal water. One day I fell asleep with a mask on my face (I decided, as expected, to enjoy a beauty ritual rather than plant seven rose bushes), and slept for 20-30 minutes. After removing the mask, I just wanted to quickly apply the cream. There were no other negative consequences.
In the photo below you can roughly understand what the layer should be so that in the prescribed ten minutes the face does not tighten, but there is also no excess mask left that has not dried out, and therefore ineffectively used. I note that in winter, with heating, this result will be achieved in about 5 minutes. But if the mask dries faster than the prescribed 10 minutes, you can use thermal water. I took the swatches below now at relatively high humidity in St. Petersburg and a temperature of about +20 C.
I repent and pray for mercy for all aesthetes for the hairs on my hand that were stained in the mask.
— How to delete
The manufacturer recommends removing the mask with a warm, damp towel. I evaluate this recommendation as a way, together with a mask, to mechanically remove impurities pulled out of the pores. If you use the mask regularly and your skin is not very problematic, this method is good. I would only recommend spraying your face with water first to soften the mask - 1-2 seconds is enough and you can wash it off. The option with a towel is good for those who like waterless washing - the towel can be wetted with mineral water, for example.
If the pores were severely clogged, I removed the mask using a damp loofah or a powdered scrub diluted in the palm of my hand with a drop of water (I use bee naturals Queen Bee Facial Polish). If this is not enough, then you can remove the remaining “plugs” with a Uno spoon. If you expect the mask to narrow pores and remove toxins and your skin is normal and problem-free, then you can choose a more gentle method: rinse with a brush like the Shiseido Cleansing Massage Brush or a “blue”, more budget-friendly analogue from Kiko - Cleansing Face Brush. I have the first one in my arsenal and use it to wash off the mask when my skin is in good condition.
— My three ways to use it
More precisely, I always use the mask the same way: apply, wait, wash off. But I prepare my skin differently, which, of course, affects the result.
No. 1. I simply wash my face with Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser With Cottonseed. That is, the pores are at least open and prepared. In this case, pore cleansing is minimal. But they are tightened, the complexion is fresher and more even. A suitable option if cleaning is not needed, but you want to look fresh.
No. 2. I prepare my face in the shower: I wash my face with foam, apply bee naturals Queen Bee Facial Polish. The result is the same freshness. But the pores are not only tightened, but also cleansed. If everything has been neglected, additional mechanical “finishing” is needed in the form of a scrub, towel, loofah, etc. - spoke about this above.
No. 3. I tried this method after Natalia Alouette’s post. I do this in the sauna: on the second session, when the skin is already warm, I apply bee naturals Queen Bee Facial Polish scrub diluted in Aura Cacia Balancing Jojoba Natural Skin Care Oil to my face with massage movements while I am in the mood (5-10 minutes). After this, the skin looks so that applying a mask to cleanse the pores seems unnecessary. But in matters of beauty, the law “The best is the enemy of the good” does not work. After such preparation, the mask draws out residues from the pores and cleanses even the narrowest, longest and never-cleansed pores (I think everyone has a couple of these). Next, I wash off the mask with my hands; there is simply no need to scrub anything off.
And here's another thing - the mask tingles the first 10 seconds after application. That's why at the beginning of the post I talked about sensitive skin. For me, this tingling is almost unnoticeable if everything is fine with my face. But if, due to a runny nose or a bad ending to a movie, the wings of my nose are rubbed, and I again forgot and applied the mask there, the mask will burn like hell, I need to wash it off. Likewise, if the face is chapped, after frost, injured by testing a new scrub - different things have happened over these almost 2 years. I experience inflammation extremely rarely; I don’t feel any burning sensation. But I can’t say what the sensations will be like if there is a lot of inflammation.
— What do I apply after the mask?
In the summer, almost always - nothing. After this mask, the skin is so... perfect that you don’t want to touch it at all. As a rule, more out of habit, I tone Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera Formula Alcohol-Free Toner. All. During the heating season or if the skin is dehydrated, then after the mask, yes, you want to quickly start the moisturizing stage. But I note that the desire to apply cream was never unbearable. Often I was distracted by something, forgot, and the feeling of slight tightness went away on its own. Thermal water also helps.
Promises and results
Dear girls, I understand perfectly well that when choosing a mask, the last thing you would like to know about it is the labeling of plastic for recycling. The main thing is the “before” and “after” photos. But there won't be any. I think you won’t accuse me of laziness, but will believe that I tried my best more than once. But my technical capabilities did not allow me to take demonstrative and informative photographs. And thanks to the mask, my skin is in fairly good condition, but it’s extremely difficult to convey freshness in a photo.
So I’ll just say that this mask is a definite and absolute must-have for me. This is the case when a product pleasantly surprises, exceeds expectations, and does more than you expect from it. On Kosmetist there is the highest rating for the product “even my husband noticed” - this is about her.
- Pros
— The mask is real has a cumulative effect. Get your skin in order: I used the mask daily or every other day for 1-2 weeks at certain periods. Such courses were conducted as necessary, repeatedly, in different seasons. There have never been any drying out or other “side” effects. But, it seems to me, here you need to listen to your skin - often we don’t do this. And then use the mask as needed: I usually do it 1-2 times every 2 weeks, in the summer - 1 time a week. This frequency helps me keep my pores in good condition and renew my skin.
— Cleanses pores, even deep ones. The better you prepare your skin (see above), the better it will cleanse. But the advantage is that with a mask you can put your skin in order in intensive mode, and then you don’t have to steam your skin for a long time before each use of the mask, only on “big wash” days.
— Refreshes and evens out the complexion. If I make a mask in the morning, then I don’t want to “spoil” the effect of it with any decorative products for the face. The skin is fresh, smooth, and has a glow. To be fair, I note that if I use foundation, it is either a transparent layer of powder or a drop of foundation in my day cream.
— Saves time and money. The need for additional exfoliating products, no, does not disappear, you just can use them less often. For example, with the same scrub. Exactly the same as decorative cosmetics, if this is acceptable to you.
— Economical. You and I have already considered this. I think such an effect for a whole year, even for half a year, for that kind of money is a great success.
- Minuses
Difficult to access offline. Kiehl's is becoming popular and beloved among us. This can be seen at least by the number and frequency of posts on Beautician. In Russia, the official points of sale are: Rive Gauche St. Petersburg (Passage), Moscow and Rostov-on-Don, TSUM and DLT - the same Moscow and St. Petersburg. In Mosca, I know, a flanker boutique was opened. Ukraine and Belarus are not listed on the official website (I don’t know how they really are). Duty Free** remains. Surely you or someone around you are planning a vacation abroad. If you are ready to buy a mask without testing, order it. And if you are flying yourself, do not hesitate to take a sample and test the mask in the airport toilet before boarding the plane. The atmosphere in foreign toilets is usually inviting. And the mask is worth it.
** I made a request on the Kiehl’s website for a list of all airports in the world where you can buy Kiehl’s in Duty Free. I received an answer, but no list. You can look at the websites of the airports themselves or make a request to them.
According to my observations - evidence of this is regular promotions at points of sale - this mask, along with Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado and Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate (despite different reviews), is one of the most successful and popular products. For this reason alone, the mask is worth trying. I honestly admit that I haven’t tried anything else in the full version from this brand. But as soon as the opportunity arises - definitely!
I would like to ask you to look again at what the manufacturer promises us in the Catalog. I read about this mask on the Internet that it is for problem skin and for acne and blackheads. But I didn’t find this anywhere in official sources. I don’t argue that it can dry out inflammation (see reviews of other users on Beautician with different skin types), but if suddenly it doesn’t, the mask is not to blame.
