Resection

Resection is an operation of excision of a part of an organ or tissue while preserving its viability, carried out for therapeutic or diagnostic purposes. The term also refers to any operation in which partial destruction or removal of an organ, tissue or structure is performed.

The following types of organ resection operations are distinguished: - organ removal (for example, partial or complete removal of the liver, kidneys, spleen, etc.); - cutting off pathological tissue from healthy areas (topographic anatomy); - excision of an organ fragment for further histological diagnosis; - hemostasis surgery
