The section of medicine dealing with the etiology, diagnosis, prevention, treatment of infectious diseases and epidemiology is one of the most complex medical areas, which even specialists divide into several more highly specialized areas - from phthisiology to infectious immunology. The section "Infectious diseases" includes acute and chronic infectious diseases diseases, both exo- (naturally focal) and anthroponotic infections (occurring exclusively or predominantly in humans). The doctor is faced with the basic methods of diagnosing and treating infectious diseases, organizing measures to combat pathogenic organisms and prevent their spread, studies methods of protecting the human body and effectively countering the spread of infectious agents. The course examines and summarizes the most essential information in the academic discipline “infectious diseases”.
The main goal of the discipline is to develop in students professional competencies and practice-oriented knowledge necessary to perform the basic professional functions of a doctor as a therapist and infectious disease specialist, an assistant epidemiologist, an assistant for working with microorganisms of III-IV pathogenicity groups. As a result of studying this discipline, a specialist should have an understanding of: pathophysiological mechanisms of the occurrence, development and course of infectious diseases; principles of their treatment; methods of their diagnosis; organizing public health measures aimed at preventing the spread of infection.
