Schistosomosis mansoni: Definition, etymology and classification

**Schistosomum mansoni** is a widespread species of parasitic flatworm that has a flat shape and an elongated body. This is one of the most common types of flukes and lives in the genitourinary system of humans and other animals such as monkeys and koalas. Today we will talk about this unique type of parasite and look at its features.

One example, known since the times of Aristotle and Galen, is the Latin name for this parasite - Schistosome, from the Greek χείστοσουμα (cheistonisma), meaning “tartar” or “wisdom tooth”. Currently, the English term schistosome, according to the International Committee on Taxonomy of Elementary Organisms (Iota-codex), is used as the standard name for all forms of schistosomes. According to outdated terminology used in some medical works, some types of tapeworms may have their own names. Schistomonas Haematobium, for example, is no longer considered a synonym of Visceral Larva Migrans, but is now known as Schistosos Mansonis. Medicine fluke, or Munson's fluke, which is also known as acute intestinal infestation, has a number of symptoms other than blood vessel infections. These include fever, abdominal pain, digestive problems, diarrhea and muscle and joint pain. It is also known that these invasions are often accompanied by chronic liver failure, which in combination with various medications can aggravate the problem. Although the symptoms may be minor, the Schistomone mansonises parasite poses a serious threat to human health. Schistonomosis is by far the most common cause of intestinal disease in Africa.
