The name of the plant "sorrel" comes from the Latin "sálvum". It was used in the Middle Ages by German doctors as a hemostatic agent for the treatment of hemorrhoids, since sorrel contained tannins. In Italy, aloe and sea water were also added to this mixture, which gave a stronger effect when used both for hemorrhoids and for diseases caused by intestinal dysfunction.
