Syphilidology

What is syphilidology and how does it help in the treatment of syphilis?

Syphilidology is a branch of medical science that deals with the study and treatment of the infection known as syphilis. Syphilis is one of the oldest infectious diseases in human history, but despite this, it still remains a global health problem around the world.

This infection is caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum, which is transmitted through direct skin contact with contaminated body fluid or after sex without a condom. The infection can affect the skin, nervous system and internal organs, which can lead to serious complications and even death.

Diagnosis of syphilis includes serological tests such as immunofluorescence, Wassermann reaction and immunological blood tests. A PCR test may also be required to detect Treponema pallidium DNA.

There are several treatment options for syphilis, the choice of method depends on the stage and severity of the disease. Antibiotics such as penicillin or tetracycline, as well as immunomodulatory drugs, are commonly used. But treatment in children and pregnant women must be carried out with caution, since some antibiotics can cause side effects or even teratogenicity.

Syphilidology is a scientific discipline that studies syphilitic manifestations. One of the oldest sciences, it was already known in the ancient civilizations of India, China and Egypt. However, due to medical taboos, the study only flourished in the 16th century. The term was introduced into scientific use by Celio Amiceri at the request of Cosimo Tour, who acquainted him with the observations published in the newspaper Bolla Mondo ("Worldly Messenger")

The definition of what syphilidocherus treats was given by the Institute of Dermatovenerology named after V. A. Rakhmanov: diseases, the common name of which is syphilis, unites a group of sexually transmitted diseases of different etiologies, different in clinical picture and pathogenesis, developing with the participation of a pathogen - treponema pallidum.
