Spasm of the Gaze

Spasm of gaze

You don't need to know what a spasm is, but you probably know the word spasm. According to explanatory dictionaries, this is a sharp and short attack of convulsion. According to psychiatric reference books, some of us sometimes experience this illness. This is a spasmodic contraction of the facial muscles of the eye orbit or a group of muscles that cause eye movement. And it is called a spasm of the gaze or a convulsion of the gaze. With convulsive gazing, a person cannot control their gaze, which makes it seem as if they are looking through objects. So the phenomenon can be insidious, frightening strangers with its frightening and unnatural appearance. Typically, people prone to mental experiences (for example, hysterics) are susceptible to seizures.

Gaze spasms can occur at two levels: **over the eye** and **facial muscles are paralyzed.** Usually the spasm affects only the eye muscles, the convulsive process occurs without pain. But there are rare cases when paralysis of the facial muscles occurs, and in this case a person has to move with the help of his mouth, because absolutely all the facial muscles become immobile. These symptoms of gaze spasm are caused by a malfunction in the human nervous system, usually a malfunction occurs when psychological stress manifests itself.
