A senior doctor - head of the sanitary-epidemiological department of a military unit, colonel of the medical service - medical head of the regiment, is obliged to take part in the development and implementation of sanitary and hygienic measures to combat military infectious diseases, monitor the implementation of sanitary and epidemiological rules and conduct general medical treatment work in the unit in order to preserve the lives of wounded and sick soldiers; if infectious diseases occur, take measures to eliminate them, and if there is a hospital or first-aid post in the regiment, set up a medical post with an outpatient clinic.
