Strain 5 - Relapsing typhoid fever
Due to the variety of manifestations of the disease, it is necessary to take into account the possibility of all variants of the clinical course of relapsing typhus, not only in the form of reinfection, but also under the guise of relapse (M. T. Zakharova, 1969). A relapse can be triggered by repeated cooling (enteriocapillary stress), intestinal infection (as a result of which the microorganism is introduced into the capillary bed of the intestine) or a change in the volume of the capillary bed with the presence of constipation (narrowing of the mouth of the lymphatic capillaries, which eliminates their function and aseptic expansion of the capillaries occurs). Normally, enterokinetic reactions promote the removal of mucus and microorganisms from the intestine (washing out of the intestinal lumen). An important protective function of the body is antitoxic immunity during typhoid intoxication. The loss of a number of biologically active substances (transforming growth factors, etc.) from the body’s bloodstream is an important reason for the death of the immune system under the influence of any stressors (including microbial toxins).
