Tularemia Pulmonary Primary

Primary pulmonary tularemia is a form of tularemia in which the primary lesion occurs in the lungs. The disease is caused by the bacterium Francisella tularensis and is transmitted through the airborne route when inhaling an infected aerosol.

In primary pulmonary tularemia, symptoms develop acutely, usually 3-5 days after infection. There is a high temperature, chills, weakness, and headache. Characteristic is a dry, painful cough and shortness of breath. On auscultation of the lungs, fine bubbling rales are heard.

The diagnosis is made on the basis of the clinical picture, epidemiological history and laboratory confirmation (detection of antibodies in the blood, isolation of the pathogen).

Treatment consists of prescribing antibiotics - aminoglycosides, tetracyclines, chloramphenicol. With timely treatment, the prognosis is favorable. Complications can develop in the form of a lung abscess or pleurisy. Prevention of the disease includes measures to combat rodents and insects that carry the infection.
