Baby Hair Care

Baby hair care: recommendations and tips

The arrival of a child in a family is an event that changes the lives of parents forever. One of the important tasks when caring for a baby is hair care. Despite the fact that at first glance it seems that this is a simple procedure, there are a number of features that need to be taken into account.

The skull of a newborn baby is different from that of an adult. On the baby's head there are fontanelles - non-ossified areas of the skull that protect the brain from damage during childbirth. Therefore, it is necessary to treat with special care the places where the fontanelles are located when bathing and washing your hair.

Children's hair differs from adult hair in thickness and scalp pH. The first hair that appears in a child during intrauterine development is called lagoon (vellus). By the 6th month of life, they are replaced by intermediate hairs, which begin to grow very quickly.

When bathing and washing your hair, you should use baby skin and hair care products that have a neutral pH and are labeled “tear-free.” You should not use adult soap or shampoo, as they are alkaline, which dries the skin and can cause an allergic reaction. When hair loss occurs, epithelial particles remain on the scalp that must be removed to prevent the formation of a crust.

Very often, infants develop seborrheic dermatitis - this is an accumulation of exfoliated epithelium in the form of a yellowish crust. To remove it, you need to apply warm baby oil to your head an hour before bathing and put on a cap. And before bathing, comb your hair with a special children's comb with fine teeth and wash your hair with shampoo.

Combs for children should be made from natural materials and have fine teeth. You cannot use metal combs or those that you use yourself. If your hair is very tangled, do not comb it vigorously, as this can cause pain and irritate the skin.

It is important to remember that caring for a baby's hair requires special care and attention. By following the recommendations and advice, you can ensure the health and beauty of your baby's hair.
