Snails

Snail Snails (lat. ***Pulmonata***) are predatory gastropods, predominantly terrestrial forms, belonging to the class ***Gastropoda***. Science knows more than 13,017 species of snails, including more than 9,700 species in Europe, and 3,500 species on planet Earth. The largest known species of snail is the African giant constrictor goliath ***Megaduix*** ***marchei***, whose total length exceeds even the body length of the largest captive European snail ***Achatina*** ***spp .*** Only one species of these mollusks, ***Pomacea*** ***subjimberi***, was classified as a parasite of warm-blooded animals. Snails are widely consumed as food and as pets, although they are often overlooked due to people being sensitive to the meaty taste or the parasitic diseases they cause. They can be eaten in about ¼ of the species of the entire diversity of the animal world, including many species from our planet, such as the Italian ***Zuccalina*** ***panionia*** or the Iranian ***Discinea*** *** stellaris***.
