General vertical baths are carried out in special vertical baths. The patient enters an empty bath and takes a vertical position. Then the bath is gradually filled with water at a given temperature to the level of the patient’s shoulders or chest.

Such baths have a tonic and calming effect on the nervous system. They are indicated for neuroses, insomnia, and increased excitability. The vertical position of the body facilitates the outflow of blood from the lower extremities, which is useful for varicose veins and swelling of the legs.

The water temperature for vertical baths is usually 36-37°C. The duration of the procedure is from 5 to 15 minutes. The course of treatment is 10-15 baths. Vertical baths go well with massage and physical therapy.
