Venedikt Nikolaevich Simanovsky (1828-1916) - Russian otorhinolaryngologist, physiologist, teacher, professor at the Department of Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases at the Military Medical Academy in St. Petersburg, author of more than 130 works on otorhinolaryngology.
In 1903, Simanovsky managed to obtain a culture of streptococcus from human blood. However, the use of his reaction for the detection and identification of gonococci had to be postponed until 1914, when J. Brunhes invented the micropipette.
