Vero-Azithromycin is an antibiotic from the group of macrolides and azalides used to treat various infections. It contains the active substance azithromycin, which prevents the growth and reproduction of bacteria.

Indications for the use of Vero-Azithromycin include infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract (including streptococcal pharyngitis and tonsillitis, bacterial exacerbation of chronic obstructive pneumonia, interstitial and alveolar pneumonia, bacterial bronchitis), infections of the ENT organs (otitis media, laryngitis and sinusitis), genitourinary infections systems (urethritis and cervicitis), skin and soft tissue infections (erysipelas, impetigo, secondary infected dermatoses) and the chronic stage of erythema migrans (Lyme disease).

Contraindications to the use of Vero-Azithromycin include hypersensitivity to macrolides, severe liver dysfunction, pregnancy and lactation.

Side effects of Vero-Azithromycin may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation, flatulence, diarrhea, melena, cholestatic jaundice, chest pain, palpitations, weakness, drowsiness, headache, dizziness, nephritis, vaginitis, candidiasis, neutropenia or neutrophilia , pseudomembranous colitis, photosensitivity, rash, angioedema and eosinophilia. Children may also experience hyperkinesia, agitation, nervousness, insomnia, and conjunctivitis.

The interaction of Vero-Azithromycin with antacids containing aluminum or magnesium hydroxide may reduce absorption and maximum concentration of the drug.

In case of severe dysfunction of the liver, kidneys or cardiac arrhythmias, Vero-Azithromycin should be used with caution. After discontinuation of treatment, the reaction to Vero-Azithromycin may persist for some time.

Vero-Azithromycin may interact with other drugs, including warfarin, cyclosporine, digoxin, theophylline, ergotamine, and dihydroergotamine.
