Whitish Body

Whitish body (lat. corpus albicans) - in anatomy it is a pseudocyst formed as a result of the destruction of follicles or ducts of the male or female reproductive system. The term "corpus whitish" is most often used to describe pseudocysts in the ovaries and pituitary gland. Corpus whitish can also be used to describe certain tumors such as meningioma, osteosclerotic fibrous cyst, cervical polyp, uterine leydigomas.

Corpus whitish cysts can be discovered either incidentally during a medical examination or during surgical removal of other neoplasms. If a whitish body is suspected, a chest x-ray and an ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvis should be performed to confirm the diagnosis. If detected, the doctor suggests consultation with a gynecologist or urologist, respectively. Sometimes surgery to remove the cyst is required.
