Korgard: use, side effects and interactions with other drugs
Korgard (nadolol) is a beta blocker that is used to treat hypertension, angina, sinus tachycardia, arrhythmias and other cardiovascular diseases. The drug is manufactured by several companies, including Bristol-Myers Squibb in different countries, as well as Fako Ilaclari AS in Turkey.
Each Korgard tablet contains the active ingredient nadolol. The drug is available in two dosages: 40 mg and 80 mg. Indications for the use of Korgard include arterial hypertension, angina pectoris, sinus tachycardia, arrhythmias, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, mitral valve prolapse, myocardial infarction, hyperkinetic cardiac syndrome, tremor, anxiety and migraine.
Although Korgard is an effective drug, it can also cause side effects. These may include a feeling of fatigue, headache, sleep and speech disturbances, paresthesia, visual disturbances, decreased libido, nasal congestion, cough, rarely - bronchospasm, bradycardia, AV block, hypotension, heart failure, cold extremities, dry mouth, anorexia , nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, flatulence, diarrhea or constipation, impotence, rash, prurigo, dry eyes and skin, hyperhidrosis, facial swelling, alopecia and changes in body weight.
In addition, before using Korgard, it is necessary to take into account its contraindications and limitations for use. The drug should not be taken in case of hypersensitivity to nadolol, severe bradycardia (less than 50 beats/min), AV block of the second and third degree, sick sinus syndrome, cardiogenic shock, chronic and refractory to treatment severe heart failure, pulmonary heart failure, hypotension, occlusive vascular diseases (Raynaud's syndrome), bronchial asthma and breastfeeding. The use of the drug with restrictions should be treated with caution in case of impaired liver or kidney function, diabetes mellitus, hypoglycemia, hyperthyroidism, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, open eye disease, pheochromocytoma, myasthenia gravis, psoriasis, weight loss, anemia, allergies and with the simultaneous use of other medications.
Interaction of Korgard with other drugs may increase or decrease its effects. For example, simultaneous use with antiarrhythmic drugs can enhance their effect and provoke serious heart rhythm disturbances. Concomitant use with certain antidepressants, antihistamines and other beta-blockers may also enhance the effect of Korgard and lead to serious side effects.
