Actions and properties.
Butter promotes ripening, dissolves and eases tension; it dissolves juices in medium bodies, but not hard ones, and in soft ones it dissolves with ease. The smoke from the butter is drying and slightly astringent; it soothes pain from matter pouring into the organs.
Cosmetics.
The body is lubricated with butter, and it nourishes and fattens it.
Wounds and ulcers.
It helps with nerve injuries, fills ulcers with meat and cleanses them.
Organs of the head.
Medicines are mixed with oil against wounds of the meninges, tumors and the base of the ear, on the wings of the nose, in the mouth and on the gums, as well as against the kul. They apply it to the gums of children and it facilitates the growth of teeth.
Respiratory and chest organs.
Butter, especially with almonds and sugar, helps with cold, dry cough. It is also useful for pleurisy and pneumonia, facilitates expectoration and promotes ripening, and it is also given with almond oil. Its promotion of ripening is then stronger, but when consumed in its pure form it purifies less than it promotes ripening. With sugar, the opposite is true.
The oil, if given to lick with honey in the amount of one and a half uqiya, prevents hemoptysis and helps against vomiting pus.
Eruption organs.
Butter softens the body, and consuming it in excess causes diarrhea. It is used to make an enema for hot and hard tumors in the intestines, uterus and testicles. It is included in medicines for wounds of the mouth of the bladder.
Poisons.
It resists poisons and helps if it is applied to a place bitten by a viper.
